An enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated dance professional is required for the position of Rehearsal Director and Assistant Choreographer. This is a contracted part-time position from late April to the end of January every year. The Rehearsal Director will be expected to:

  • Take regular company warm-up classes before rehearsals or as directed
  • Conduct full company or soloist rehearsals
  • Give consistent feedback to dancers on accuracy and technique
  • Act as repetiteur when remounting existing works under direction of artistic director/choreographer (AD/C)
  • Choreograph sections of movement when requested by, and under direction of AD/C
  • Communicate regularly with AD/C on overall vision of ballet, including style of narrative and non-narrative movement vocabulary
  • Inform the casting decisions of AD/C with feedback on technical and performance ability of relevant dancers
  • Evaluate and communicate progress of rehearsals
  • Be available for rehearsals on Sundays as scheduled, one full September holiday week, and two weeks in the middle of January (rehearsal, bump-in and performance)


  • Highly developed critical eye for dance, specifically ballet
  • Well demonstrated ability to choreograph effectively, specifically for large groups
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Graduate of a tertiary/vocational dance institute
  • Minimum 5 years dance teaching/coaching experience
  • Sound knowledge of stagecraft as it specifically relates to ballet/proscenium stage productions
  • Demonstrated rapport with young people aged 10 to 18 years
  • Professional dance experience a decided advantage
